We have worked with Inglenook Restoration over the course of the past five years. We started with the restoration of our original 18th century inglenook fireplace. It had been “modernised” by the previous homeowners and had fake beams bolted to the front and layers of concrete and modern bricks added to the sides and front. We wanted to take it back to its original glory. Deyan painstakingly worked to restore all with original period brickwork, he uncovered the original beam and even discovered the hidden “money store” at the back of the fireplace. In addition to his great skill and craftsmanship, he also brought to the job his honesty, strong work ethic and his passion for his work. We undertook a complete renovation of the house last year and brought Deyan back to uncover a hidden fireplace in an upstairs bedroom. We gave Deyan the challenge of raising the brickwork by five courses to correspond with the raising of the bedroom floor! This was quite a challenge, but Deyan took it on with gusto. The result is stunning – he also helped to create a “reading snug” for my son adjacent to the fireplace. As with the first time, his professionalism was unparalleled and the craftsmanship was faultless. I have wholeheartedly recommended Deyan to other neighbours looking for restoration services. Quite simply, you will not find a more skilled and dedicated tradesman in this line of work.”

“Inglenook Restoration Ltd completed a chimney rebuild on our Grade II listed Manor House. The chimney served five fireplaces and over the years the mid-feathers had collapsed and the external brickwork was in poor condition. We received a number of tenders for the work and it was clear that not many companies knew what they were doing! When Deyan visited to look at the extent of the job we were very impressed by his knowledge and sympathetic approach to the building which was vital to allow us to comply with listed building constraints.
The work was completed to an outstanding level of professionalism and looks really stunning. Subsequently, we have employed Inglenook Restoration Ltd to carry out repointing work in our Grade II listed barn and to repair cracks and walls in the Manor House. One area worthy of note was the repair of a wall which had previously been covered in cement render. We had employed a well known local builder to replace the cement with a lime based render. This was not done properly and the render failed. Deyan and his assistant carefully took out the damaged bricks and replaced them, carefully completing the lime mortar to blend in with the rest of the wall. It is an excellent job which has greatly enhanced our house. I have no hesitation in recommending Inglenook Restoration Ltd and will be using them again whenever this type of work is required”.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the job that Deyan has done for us. It is amazing the amount of work that went into our restoration and the end result is a fireplace that looks as though it has been maintained throughout the years and not recently re-built.. really, very pleased – and very proud to have such a wonderful feature in our house. I would certainly use Deyan for any kind of brickwork restoration for properties and features that are deserving.
On a separate note, Deyan and his colleague are a pleasure to have around the house. Very considerate and as clean as you can reasonably expect. Our four year old daughter really liked having them around too! Best wishes, Mark & Jen.”

“Deyan and his assistant restored two large inglenook fireplaces in our 17th Century cottage. Both were in quite poor condition and I was uncertain as to extend to which they could be restored. The transformation was remarkable and we are absolutely delighted with the results. Deyan is a true craftsman who is both very competent at what he does and also passionate and knowledgeable about inglenook restorations. He takes obvious pride in the quality of his workmanship and demonstrates great attention to detail. A true craftsman and a pleasure to work with.”

“Our 500 year old fireplace had been given several unsympathetic makeovers over the years which included the addition of false beams, breeze blocks and cement render. Deyan painstakingly opened up the inglenook, stripped it back to the original brickwork, laid a new york stone hearth and generally restored it to its former glory.Deyan is very skilled and knowledgeable about traditional building materials and methods. Great job.”

“Inglenook Restoration Ltd carried out several projects on our 16th century cottage and Smithy. Deyan restored and repointed the Inglenook fireplace using authentic Tudor bricks and lime mortar – the end result was stunning! He also restored and transformed the exterior stonework of the cottage using lime mortar and iron stone galleting to match the original perfectly. Deyan is very knowledgable about his craft and historical building techniques and styles. He is very friendly, extremely hard working and always punctual. All his work was carried out on time and to the agreed budget. He is a true perfectionist and the quality of his work and attention to detail is second to none. I would thoroughly recommend him.”

“Deyan is particularly good with old properties and ours is a Grade II listed building. He did the inglenook fireplace – the previous owner’s work had caused excess damp – they had covered it up. It needs special paint etc. and he sorted in all out – he was absolutely brilliant. My son’s bedroom was also damp and this he treated too. He is clean, everything has to be absolutely right – he is immaculate in his work. He always tidied up after a day and you would never have known that he had been there. He was a joy to have in the house. I am going to have him back as I have a study that needs pulling apart. I would certainly recommend him – 100% It was a very lucky find to get Deyan.”

“Deyan was recommended to us by our local stove centre, our Inglenook fireplace was in serious need of restoration having been spoilt by modern bricks and concrete filling in.We are absolutely delighted with the outcome, the fireplace has been completely transformed which in turn has enhanced the room far beyond our expectations. The work itself was carried out to time, as estimate, and with minimum disruption and Deyan kept us very well informed about the progress of the job. He even carried out unplanned work to one of our other fireplaces which was an unexpected bonus.I would be very happy to recommend Deyan to anyone considering a fireplace restoration, he is a very skilled, pleasant and trustworthy individual.”

“We had a problem with crumbling of the soft bricks of our 16th century inglenook fireplace. .Deyan came promptly after I contacted him.
He told me that he could either do a full restoration taking 2-3 weeks and for which he was booked up for 3-4 months, or he could do a repair taking 2 full days. He very generously gave up two Saturdays to complete the work, because due to other problems in that room he could see that we were in dire straits.
Deyan and his apprentice arrived promptly and worked through until early evening with only a very short lunch break. They worked skilfully, Deyan has a superb knowledge of centuries old traditional building methods .He sourced Tudor bricks and pointed with lime mortar- the result is superb. They were clean and tidy.
I would not hesitate in recommending Deyan and will certainly use him for any future work that we may need.”

“Inglenook Restorations limited did a fantastic job in rebuilding our Grade 2 listed chimney stack. The stack was taken down to roofline and rebuild from it’s precarious Victorian design to Tudor design. The stack rebuild needed listed building consent and Deyan provided good support during they application process and follow-up discussions with the Conservation officer, all the way by obtaining approval for the specified materials (Tudor bricks, mortar etc.). We would highly recommend Deyan and Inglenook Restorations limited to handle any similar repair. He was a pleasure to work with and delivered a truly professional and high quality job.”

“I would definitely recommend Mr Kovachev for his work on our fire place. We had a problem with leaking smoke from our inglenook fireplace into an upstairs bedroom earlier this year. I found Mr Kovachev punctual, efficient and very tidy. He cleared up each evening and his work was of high quality. We have tested the fire and the problem seems to have been solved but if, come the winter, there is still a problem I have no doubt the Mr Kovachev will return to discover the problem. He also restored an old brick fireplace which had been blocked up and again, we are very pleased with the finished job.”

“We spent a while searching for somebody who we felt would be able to sympathetically rebuild and restore our 1870 fireplace and chimney. Immediately, it became clear that Deyan was passionate, knowledgeable and keen to offer help and advice to find the best solution. After visiting the fireplace to assess the work required, we were able to quickly arrange for work to begin and the whole process was very efficient. The plan for work was clearly set out and all was completed in good time, on budget and without problem and to the highest of standards by hand. We are both delighted with the service we received from Deyan, he took the stress out of the whole process and we would not hesitate in recommending him and Inglenook Restoration Ltd.”

“Quality – Excellent; Appeal – Excellent; Service – Excellent – Deyan gave our old fireplace all the love it had missing for the last twenty years. It’s now looking as good as it did when it was built some two hundred years ago. You’d be hard pushed to find a more conscientious, professional and hardworking craftsman.”

“Having found your company via google, we only had the pictures of your previous work to go on and help us to decide to use your company. However, when we met you it was obvious you were passionate about your work and knowledgeable about historic building techniques.During the work, you showed respect and empathy not only for the building, but for the surroundings that were kept clean and tidy given the nature of the work.Regarding the actual restoration work, we were impressed that you scoured the country to ensure that only original materials matching the period were used. The finished job looks fantastic and we are looking forward to the inaugural open fire to start a new era for the inglenook!”
